Group Visits To The UNI Earth Science Department

The Department of Earth Science provides opportunities for teachers and their students as well as other groups to visit our facilities in Latham Hall. Although most groups visiting the Department are Junior High or High School classes, we can accommodate any age group, from ages 6 to 60 (and beyond)! Visits can last from an hour to two hours and can be targeted for a specific age group and/or interests.

Latham Hall contains a variety of Earth Science displays and features:

  • Geology - rocks, minerals, fossils, Iowa geological resources, Ice Age Iowa, seismometer, geodes
  • Meteorology - real time weather, tornado machine
  • Astronomy - visit the observatory, meteorites, interactive displays, 20-seat planetarium

Our faculty are also available to identify rocks and fossils, and can answer questions about various aspects of the Earth Sciences including educational and career opportunities.

To arrange a visit or to inquire about possible visits, please contact the Fieldtrip UNI office at (319)-273-6899 or Dr. James Walters at (319)-273-2759 or via e-mail at james.walters@uni.edu.
